We’ll also explore how we generate sources, how they fit into orgs and how internet research fits into “all-source intelligence,” because CI involves both human (“primary research”) & secondary sources (internet, OSINT, et al.). WHAT EVERY SOURCER NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CUSTOM SEARCH

David has recently co-authored the book “Custom Search Engines – Discover more:” – the only book out there on the subject, and is coming to #sosuv to share his expertise.  Google Custom (Programmable) Search Engines (CSEs) provide sourcing power beyond the popular perception of “automating X-Ray.” They allow the Sourcer to search in subtle ways, prioritizing keywords and sites. They have a Synonyms feature, letting you break Google’s word search limit. But the least known and the most advanced feature is the CSE search operators written as “more:pagemap” that (sort-of) magically convert parts of the web into databases so that you can search using filters beyond the title, URL, or file type.  David will “start from the beginning” but expect the talk to get a bit technical toward the end. Prerequisite: experience with Google X-Ray.
