DIRECTOR, GLOBAL SOURCING & TALENT INTELLIGENCE
Mike is an experienced recruitment professional and mentor who believes that the secret to a successful and fulfilling career is within reach of everyone. It’s about aligning a candidate’s passions, ambitions, and energy generators with the challenges that your company is facing.
Having fallen into recruitment out of school, it wasn’t initially an obvious calling for Mike, but a serendipitous opportunity with Google opened his eyes to what Talent Acquisition could be! After moving to Toronto, he helped scale two companies (so far); Flipp went from 320-450+ in under a year, and at Opencare built Talent from the ground up taking us from 22-80+ in 18 months. Now, he is helping Thomson Reuters to build a world-class sourcing function as they move through a huge transition into becoming a technology first company.
Two key statements guides Mike’s approach to Talent Acquisition:
“Recruitment isn’t about hiring people, it’s about solving business problems”
“Everyone can (and should) write their own career story.
He truly believe that in 2021, and beyond, organisations need to approach recruitment differently and focus on creating transparency and trust between organisations and candidates.
Inform. Don’t sell.
Trust. Don’t doubt.
Share freely. Don’t hoard.
Build. Don’t tear down.
Outside of his day-to-day at Thomson Reuters, he also offer career coaching, resume writing, and interview mentorship to those looking to make a change, or want a hand in working through big decisions. Oh, and he also have a wood carving business on the side 🙂
When coaching, his approach is to focus on understanding a person’s value hierarchy, energy generators and detractors, and motivations to work collaboratively and create clear options to help them move forward. Every individual has the power to create a positive, engaging, and invigorating career. So let’s unlock it together!
“Mike is hands down one of the best people managers/leaders I have ever worked with. Mike has exceptional skills and insights in recruiting and I always feel inspired after talking to Mike. “
