Recruiters and sourcers from Sydney to San Francisco and everywhere in between are using the same tactics and tools to locate passive talent today. Professional networking sites have become the main resources that recruitment professionals use to find candidates. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean we are all fishing from a similar pool of candidates. With all the tools available today, it’s not necessarily cutting-edge recruiting. This session will remind recruiters and sourcers that there is more to targeted recruiting than just using networking sites. In order to be truly revolutionary, sometimes it’s necessary to combine cutting edge sourcing tactics with long-forgotten methods to outwit the competition and find the best talent.

“Join Shally Steckerl in this must-know primer on strategic metrics. Learn the type of data you should be tracking, how to translate that data into actionable metrics, and how to analyze those metrics to serve informed insights to your C-suite. Go from data deluge to data-driven with these key takeaways: * How to report on outcomes, not processes
* How to translate raw numbers into strategy
* How to spot and avoid faulty metrics that can lead to costly mistakes
* How to really align HR goals to business goals
* How to not overdo metrics and lead a manageable program for your team. You are swimming in data. Equipped with more tech and software solutions each year means you have more to measure, but what really matters? Dashboards, scorecards, reports, who has the time to analyze, much less tell a compelling visual story? TA leaders are expected to become more data-driven and data-fluent to make key recommendations to their C-suite on hiring, performance, and where to spend.”

Learn the basics to code JS in your browser for two types of practical uses: 1) sets of Chrome bookmarks that don’t just take you to websites, but also run custom people searches from selected text or your input in a popup box, download data, display multiple windows of results from one query, find all email addresses or highlight desired keywords on a webpage and more. These bookmarklets are almost as good as Chrome extensions but they’re 100% free, customized and never disappear. 2) And if you like webscraper software but find that some data-rich websites don’t seem work with those, this will introduce you to the methods to create a scraper for a particular people data-heavy site that also guesses email addresses for the person on the page! This is recommended as a session to bridge the mental leap between Bret Feig’s and Andre Bradshaw’s more advanced sessions.
The journey for an advanced sourcer is to master their craft. The chrome browser is the tool you use the most, yet we don’t understand our full potential without using built-in Developer Tools. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Join me virtually to see if he was correct.
Sourcers and recruiters are NOT engineers (unless you are Andre B). Even though we do not write web apps or systems-level code, it should not stop us from finding the engineers who do these jobs. There are many ways to improve your understanding of a job requisition that goes beyond the buzzword and keywords. The better you understand the req, the better your search becomes. Once you understand WHAT you are looking for, then it becomes a matter of WHERE these technical candidates are. There are the familiar methods used to find these candidates, but there are also some others that you may not be aware of. In this session, Mark will talk about:
* How to research & understand the technology behind a req
* How to search for these candidates * Where you can go once you’ve “seen all the candidates”
* How you can use specialized networks, groups, and social coding sites
* What to say when communicating with these candidates

For some companies, it is possible to create a complete email directory. Join Irina and find out how to solve the challenge. (But no spam, please!)

What if uncertainty and change strikes several times a day and your team still needs to thrive, adapt and make fast decisions in situations with high workload and stress. Let me paint a scene of what happens when we take a new order from a client in South Africa: the conversation will go something like this. “I need a Marketing Manager with an SEO certification; they also need to have experience with Digital markets, and they need to be a Black Female.” This is completely normal and happens here on a daily basis. We hardly ever hear, “Send me the best person for the job”. As I result of us living in a post-apartheid era, we need to work within the constraints of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment system which governs the vast majority of businesses in South Africa. I encourage you to listen to my presentation as I want to share my personal journey of growing up as a white South African in apartheid South Africa and how this has affected the economy of our country and how we recruit today. I want to encourage diversity sourcing for the ‘right reasons’ and not because you are forced to be tick the diversity box because the law dictates that we must do this!

Sometimes a search is as easy as [“I am looking for” python django], and other times it’s sufficient to flip through your favorite thesaurus to find some word variations to develop a monster OR search 100 terms long. But many times, the key criterion cannot be found with a direct keyword search, no matter how many variations you include. The key to success in these situations is the concept of indirect (aka inferential or implied) search. What evidence can we search for, which implies that the people we find do meet our desired criteria? This talk will cover several examples of how to “think different” in search, leveraging indirect techniques to uncover leads who will be missed by any other means.
